The Safari Club Convention is back in Reno, Nevada. The show is four days long spanning January 23rd-26th.

Pronghorn Guide Service will be in booth # 5718 in the McElroy Ballroom and will have on display a collection of the largest pronghorn antelope ever taken. This display will include the “pending” New Boone & Crockett World’s Record, the current Boone & Crockett World’s Record, the Safari Club International World’s Record, and many others!

New Mexico Pronghorn Hunts Almost Sold Out

The 2012 Safari Club Convention in Las Vegas went very well for us. We booked all but 3 of our New Mexico Landowner Tag Hunts. If anyone wants to book one of the last 3 shoot us an email or call us as soon as you’ve made up your mind. One of the hunts is in mid September and the other is in early October.

Larry Knipp Giant Arizona Pronghorn

I just finished cutting this clip together and posted it to YouTube. Larry’s buck was taken in 2011 in Unit 9 and officially scored 93 7/8 SCI and 91 B&C. Those of you familiar with Unit 9 will probably be able to guess exactly where we were hunting. Unit 9 is one of Arizona’s more mysterious units when it comes to giant trophy pronghorn. We hear rumors of big bucks every year in Unit 9, but rarely do we ever see any of them. This doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Larry’s buck is proof of that.

The Arizona Game & Fish Commission is having a meeting today to discuss the implications of HB 2072. It hasn’t passed yet.

It appears that this bill will give Arizona a lot more auction/commissioner/legislator/raffle tags for all species.

Here’s my cut and paste synopsis of the effect on antelope tags in Arizona – namely 1, B; 2, D; and 3, D.

1. GOVERNOR TAGS SHALL BE RESERVED FOR RESALE BY AUCTION, SHALL BE SPECIES SPECIFIC AND SHALL BE VALID FOR THAT SPECIES FOR ANY HUNT AREA WITH ANY LEGAL WEAPON FOR THREE HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE DAYS BEGINNING AUGUST 15 OF EACH YEAR. GOVERNOR TAGS SHALL BE ISSUED IN THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS FOR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BIG GAME SPECIES:

(b) ONE TAG FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIES: DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP, ROCKY MOUNTAIN BIGHORN SHEEP, PRONGHORN (ANTELOPE), MERRIAM’S TURKEY, RIO GRANDE TURKEY AND GOULD’S TURKEY.

2. LEGISLATOR TAGS SHALL BE RESERVED FOR RESALE BY AUCTION, SHALL BE SPECIES SPECIFIC AND SHALL BE VALID FOR ANY OPEN SEASON FOR THAT SPECIES FOR A SPECIFIC HUNT AREA WITH THE LEGAL WEAPON ALLOWED FOR THAT SEASON. LEGISLATOR TAGS SHALL BE ISSUED IN THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS FOR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BIG GAME SPECIES AND APPLY TO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING HUNT AREAS:

(d) TWO TAGS FOR ANTELOPE VALID FOR ALL HUNT NUMBERS AS THE COMMISSION SPECIFIES IN ANY OF REGIONS 1, 2, 3 AND 5 AS IN EXISTENCE ON JANUARY 1, 2012, EXCEPT THAT BOTH TAGS SHALL NOT BE FROM THE SAME REGION.

3. SPORTSMEN TAGS SHALL BE RESERVED FOR RESALE BY RAFFLE AND SHALL BE VALID FOR A SPECIFIC HUNT NUMBER. SPORTSMEN TAGS SHALL BE ISSUED IN THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS FOR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BIG GAME SPECIES AND APPLY TO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING HUNT NUMBERS:

(d) TWO PRONGHORN (ANTELOPE) TAGS FROM THE GENERAL SEASON COMPRISING ONE TAG FOR EACH OF HUNT AREAS 10 AND 19A AS IN EXISTENCE ON JANUARY 1, 2012.

Pronghorn Guide Service will be in booth #142 and will have on display a collection of the largest pronghorn antelope ever taken. Mike Gallo’s Pending B&C World’s Record

I thought the home page of the website was looking a little bland so I thought I’d throw a photo into the mix. Here’s Mike Gallo’s buck from New Mexico this past season. It officially scores 95 2/8 B&C and 99 2/8 SCI. This makes it the pending Boone & Crockett World’s Record. It will have to be panel scored to become the official B&C World’s Record.
